What is the Talking Bees Garden Grant?

The Talking Bees Garden Grant supports schools, libraries, and community organizations, especially in the Austin, Texas area, in creating pollinator-friendly gardens that promote environmental education, hands-on learning, and biodiversity. It is presented by:

 
 

By awarding six grantees $1,000 per site, our goal is to cultivate a deeper understanding of the vital role pollinators play in our ecosystem while fostering community engagement and sustainability.

Eligibility

Who: Public schools and public libraries

Where: Austin or surrounding areas (Round Rock, Pflugerville, Manor, Cedar Park, Buda, Kyle, Leander)

Preference will be given to applicants serving communities with limited access to environmental education resources or pollinator awareness programs

  • The Talking Bees Garden Grant Initiative, presented by The Healthy Hive Foundation in partnership with H-E-B, Round Rock Honey, and Landscape Theory Studio, provides funding and resources to Central Texas schools and libraries to create and maintain pollinator-friendly gardens.

  • Public schools, public libraries, or 501(c)(3) nonprofits operating youth-focused environmental or garden education programs in Austin, Texas, or surrounding areas (such as Round Rock, Pflugerville, Manor, Cedar Park, Buda, Kyle, and Leander) are eligible.

  • The application window is open throughout August 2025. Grant recipients will be notified in mid-September 2025.

    • On-site garden consultation and planning

    • Soil, native plants, and organic materials

    • Pollinator-safe planting blueprint and pesticide-free guidance

    • Environmental education materials aligned with the Texas curriculum

    • Garden Day event with youth/volunteers

    • Teacher/librarian toolkit

    • Ongoing support through September 2026

  • There will be two garden sizes available to six grant recipients, a “production raised garden” sized at a maximum of 150 sf., or the “pollinator garden” (in-ground) sized at a maximum of 250 sf.

  • Each selected site will receive a $1,000 grant, distributed among expert consultation, materials, education resources, and small site-specific needs.

  • Applicants must:

    • Be a public school, public library, or qualifying 501(c)(3) nonprofit

    • Operate a youth-focused environmental or garden education program

    • Be located in Austin or a surrounding area

    • Demonstrate a commitment to sustaining the garden beyond the grant year

  • A review panel from The Healthy Hive Foundation and Landscape Theory Studio will evaluate applications based on site readiness, youth engagement, educational value, and community impact.

    • Schools & Libraries: Get a custom garden, educational support, and community space

    • Students: Learn by doing, hands-on experiences with ecosystems, food systems, and pollinator protection

    • Communities: Enjoy beautified green spaces, volunteer opportunities, and stronger environmental connections

    • Partners: Deepen community ties and promote sustainable, scalable garden models for youth education
