Advocating for Bees at the Texas State Capitol
From the Hive to the House
Healthy Hive Foundation crew at the Texas State Capitol
May marked a milestone for the Healthy Hive Foundation as we took our advocacy straight to the Texas State Capitol. In celebration of National Honey Bee Day, our team presented research and real-life stories to state legislators, highlighting just how critical bees are to our food system and environment.
Our message was clear: without bees, our ecosystems collapse. These tiny powerhouses pollinate one in every three bites we eat and support Texas crops like melons, citrus, and almonds. But their habitats are shrinking, and harmful practices like the use of neonicotinoids continue to jeopardize their survival.
We shared proposals for pollinator-friendly legislation, including funding for school garden programs, urban wildflower corridors, and clearer labeling on pesticides. The reception was hopeful-many leaders were eager to learn more and support bee-forward initiatives.
Our presence in the Capitol was more than symbolic, it was strategic. Bees may be small, but their impact is mighty. And with continued advocacy, education, and community effort, we can ensure they have a future worth buzzing about.
