Love in Bloom
Why Bees Are the Real Heart of February
Bees are responsible for much of the beauty and bounty we celebrate during Valentine's Day. From roses to strawberries to chocolate's raw ingredients, pollinators play a vital (and often overlooked) role in our celebrations of love.
This month, The Healthy Hive Foundation is encouraging our community to "Love Local"-buy pollinator-safe flowers, avoid pesticide-treated plants, and support local beekeepers. We also hosted a Bee My Valentine event at local farmers markets to promote awareness and share native seeds for spring planting.
It's not just about protecting bees; it's about creating a more mindful, connected way to give back. When we choose eco-conscious gifts and support pollinator-safe agriculture, we're choosing love that lasts longer than a bouquet.
Neonicotinoids still lurk in many commercial flower shipments and imported goods. But even small changes-like asking your florist where their blooms come from-can help turn the tide. Let's make sure our love stories include bees, the ultimate matchmakers of our ecosystem.
